Showcase

Throughout my years at Michigan State University (MSU) working toward my Master of Education (MaED), I was captivated by the many variations of projects and assignments all within the same program.  The requirements of the different courses ensured a well-rounded learning of the concepts and theories within the program.

In my showcase, I decided to highlight three different themes that were present in the following eight assignments below.  The themes present in these assignments are creativity, evaluation and case analysis.  Among all these assignments are also detailed information of theories and concepts to help navigate through all the courses and complete a vivid understanding of how this education will effect my future in teaching.

Creativity:

Sparks of Candace

My creative juices were really flowing with the ability to choose my own adventure in this assignment.  It was a method of highlighting what creativity was to me personally and reflecting on classmates versions of the same assignment.  I was sparked with enthusiasm to share my personality.

Creativity:

Program Planning

I hold this assignment close to my heart because it gave me the ability to use my insights and creativity to plan a program for my dream job of working at a local college.  The planning process involves more stakeholders than I imagined and I had to get creative in ensuring the program would meet the schools needs.

Case Analysis:

Leadership

This assignment brought a new light to understanding leadership within a specific scenario in a company.  It was easy to see the connection between this company and my current position.  I used the references for the class to connect with the characters and provider personal reflection on their leadership actions.

Case Analysis:

Adult Career Development

I was delighted to be able to take a course and create this assignment related to adult career development.  The journey through the book with Dr. Ofri was a great case to review to understand how people grow and learn together in their place of work.  Education does not stop with the school

Case Analysis:

Whale Rider

This case analysis focused on traditional learning and how it can evolve as new challenges arise.  Participant observation was used to understand the Maori tribe and how the importance of togetherness within the community.  I loved how learning about traditions of another group helped me open my eyes to changes I can make within my teaching career.

Evaluation:

Evaluation, Budget, and Marketing

I was thankful to be able to use this assignment to create a better understanding of the use of evaluation that occurs after a course is complete.  I designed an evaluation form and planned interview to be able to understand if the students in the program we satisfied and felt they gained knowledge throughout the course.  I can use this knowledge to make future improvements.

Evaluation:

Analysis of a Teacher

In one of my early courses, I was able to connect with a current teacher in a field similar to my possible future.  I also used this opportunity to try to reach out to current professors at the college I am vying for.  The insight and understanding gained from spending time with my colleague was an amazing asset to my time with MSU.

Evaluation:

Assessment and Evaluation Practices

Once again I connected with the same colleague within my current company and interviewed her on how she currently practices and recommendations based on the text on how she could improve her current process.  I was amazed by all the work it takes to complete simple training courses and ensure they are assessed properly.
